Easy to use - but only after an hour or two of "Secrets" training, October 26, 2012 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Windows 8 Professional System Builder DVD 64-Bit (DVD-ROM) The "System Builder" version of Windows 8 Professional is for installation on a NEW personal computer or on a computer that is NOT currently running Windows 7, Vista, or XP. This product ("System Builder") is NOT for upgrading; if you are upgrading from a previous version of Windows, then get the upgrade package (which is cheaper).
Windows 8 is the biggest single step-change of an operating system (OS) that I have ever seen. It is, quite simply, a whole new OS; it is so completely different from previous releases of Windows that Microsoft should have given it a name other than "Windows." Some online reviewers are saying that Windows 8 is nothing more than the latest "Windows 7 Service Pack." This may sound mildly clever; but it is very wrong.

Just keep an open mind..., November 7, 2012 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Windows 8 Professional System Builder DVD 64-Bit (DVD-ROM) I was a little skeptical about Windows 8 Pro at first, but I still ordered one upgrade copy at $40 and installed it on my Desktop. I have got to tell you that no windows installation has ever gone as smoothly as Windows 8. The installation was really easy and was complete within 1 hour. The best part was I did not have to take back up of anything (Though I did, just in case). I have a habit of creating 2 partitions on my drive, one for only OS and Programs and another for my personal data. While installing the upgrade it asked me if I wanted to keep everything or only settings or keep nothing. I chose the option of "Keep Nothing" as I am a bit finicky about clean install and all. But The setup just removed everything from my OS partition and did not touch my Data Partition. Within one hour I was running Windows 8 with all the Data Intact. I re-installed all my legacy programs and everything went without any kind of hiccup. I did not have any issue with the drivers or my devices. All... Read more

New Tech for Hardware, New and Old, October 26, 2012 By This review is from: Windows 8 Professional System Builder DVD 64-Bit (DVD-ROM) This version of Windows 8 is referred to as the "System Builder" in that it is a full installation of Windows 8 and not an upgrade. Windows 8 is a multi-boot friendly OS and the intention behind this particular disc is that persons building new machines can have a full version of the Windows 8 OS and install it without having to own a prior version of Windows--but it can also be installed on any hardware that meets the system requirements. It is uncertain at this time whether this brand replaces the "OEM" versions many of us are familiar with, but for now the "System Builder" editions of Windows 8 are the only versions of Windows 8 being sold that are not an upgrade. If you're building a new Windows machine it might make sense to take the plunge and go with the newest Microsoft OS. If you want to keep your options open and do a dual-boot install on an older machine, thus far I've seen Windows 8 to be fairly multi-boot friendly, and I've even heard that the "Windows Anywhere"...
