Wow!!!! This excellent book releaved a ton of stress for me., October 24, 2012 This review is from: Teach Yourself VISUALLY Windows 8 (Teach Yourself VISUALLY (Tech)) (Paperback) Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?) If you are not a tech whiz or are short on time to learn, or even learning challanged with words, this book is nearly as valuable as your computer. It is not exhaustive in content but it is miles ahead of any book I have ever used to learn how to understand and therefore use apps faster and more efficiently. Lots and lots of full color pictures, I am now ready for Windows 8 , bring it on, I now feel up to the task of learning a new os. Reading through this book has convinced me that I will learn how to do apps that I could never learn well enough to use on windows 7 , and it is all about the visual techniques in the book they make it so easy to understand techniques I could never get down with written insturctions . Love it, it is like having a computer expert standing next to me guiding me every step of the way. It doesn't get much cooler than that.

Windows 8. I consider myself as above-average in knowledge and using Microsoft products. Windows 8 brings the Microsoft operating system to a new level. After installing the program, I poked around for a few days to see what was new, etc., as well as check out other reviews. My book arrived and is an excellent product. Whether you are an experienced Windows person or have little, if any experience, this book will help you better understand the benefits and functions of the program.
The booklet is very contemporary but most important as the title suggest "Teach Yourself Visually" there are plenty of pictures and diagrams to guide you along your learning curve. By providing so many images, you aren't frustrated while attempting to ramp up. Also, a nice addition is each chapter is color coded so you can skip around based on topics you need to learn or research.

There is no doubt that Windows 8 is a huge leap from prior versions of Windows (XP and 7 included). With it's Metro theme interface (those colorful and living tiles that don the cover of this book and the home screen of any new Windows 8 PC or tablet) the user can already tell that they are in for an experience unlike anything that they have experienced in prior versions of Windows. That being said, a good manual that gets to some of the very basic nuts and bolts is a must.
Teach Yourself Visually Windows 8 is a great book for the casual PC user or the beginner to intermediate just getting started with the new Operating System. Microsoft's new OS is a complete departure from the way they have done things in the past. And while I don't want to really discuss the operating system in this review, it's important to know that there are enough new features in this operating system and new nomenclature that a book is definitely a handy tool.
